Layering and colour turned a new build in Margaret River into a distinctive residence, according to the interior plan led by Jessica Rayment of Jessica Alice Design. The client, Jarrod Auld-Newman, founder of Honeypot Homes, asked simply for paint selections.
Colour choices shape the interior
Rather than limiting the palette to a few shades, Rayment applied multiple hues across walls, furnishings and artwork. Each space received its own tone while maintaining a visual thread that links one area to the next.
“Each layer adds a sense of personality, becomes tactile and seems to tell a story within collected items,” she said. Even before occupants move in, the place feels lived‑in.
Rayment’s upbringing in a family that dealt with fabrics influenced her emphasis on texture. A standout piece is a textile by Cassandra Harper from Décor Design, which adds pattern and depth.
Texture and personal touches
Hand‑crafted door knobs line the entry hallway, setting a tone that continues through a playful guest bathroom and a romantic main bedroom suite. The approach avoided the typical cookie‑cutter feel of many new builds.
“Every decision balanced visual impact with everyday function,” Rayment explained. Materials were chosen from small samples rather than digital renderings, a method she called “wild” in hindsight.

When the project began, Rayment did not know whether the client would live there or sell it. That uncertainty led her to create a space that feels welcoming without relying on trends.
Rayment described the project as her first solo commission, noting it clarified her professional direction. She realized that controlling the visual language from fixed elements down to final styling aligns with her core method.
The property sits amid trees, offering a natural backdrop that complements the interior’s palette. Its location enhances the sense of calm, while the interior choices bring energy and character.
