Every year, paint brands release their picks for the next year’s dominant color, shaping trends in home design before they reach stores. This year, the 2027 selections lean toward earthy, calming tones—reflecting broader shifts in how people want their living spaces to feel.

Sherwin-Williams and HGTV Home by Sherwin-Williams named Celery their 2027 color of the year. The shade is an airy green with subtle yellow undertones, designed to evoke comfort and calm. It forms part of Sherwin-Williams’ Rewild trend forecast, which aligns with growing demand for wellness-focused interiors and eco-inspired design.

“Celery was chosen as the 2027 color of the year because it reflects today’s priorities: wellness, balance, and connection,” says Ashley Banbury, color marketing manager at Sherwin-Williams, in a prepared statement. The company’s full 2027 palette includes complementary hues like White Flour SW 7102, a clean white with cream undertones; Potentially Purple SW 6821, a playful soft purple; Cosmos SW 6528, a dreamy blue with hints of violet undertones; Georgian Bay SW 6509, a deep, cerulean-tinged blue; Artichoke SW 6179, a cool, natural green; Cocoon SW 6173, an earthy brown; Woven Wicker SW 9104, a warm, golden brown; Kirsch Red SW 6313, a darker, muted red; and Plum Brown SW 6272, a rich purple grounded in brown.

Valspar, meanwhile, selected Cottage Door 8004-38E, a mid-tone neutral blue with cool and warm undertones. The color is meant to create balanced, inviting spaces while serving as a flexible neutral. Valspar’s full palette includes Moon Shot 8005-2B, a warm gray, and Apricot Blush 8003-8A, a muted, creamy pink, to pair with the blue.

Clark+Kensington, available exclusively at participating Ace Hardware stores and online at The Paint Studio, picked Vantage Point 38B-4, a sophisticated shade of blue that brings depth and dimension to interiors. Its two supporting palettes, Drift and Mellow, feature warm beiges, soft browns, and muted blues to enhance the hue’s restorative qualities.

The trend toward natural, grounding tones extends beyond blue and green. Behr Paint Co. named Grounded, an organic, dimensional shade of green between olive and moss, its 2027 color of the year. The shade is designed to create calm, renewing spaces, and Behr’s palette includes complementary neutrals like Coastal Beige, a light neutral with yellow undertones; Wheat Grass, a muted yellow-green; Environmental, a soft, warm green; Denim Light, a light blue with a soft gray undertone; and Sarsaparilla, a brown-cast plum.

Dutch Boy Paints chose Deep Rooted, an earthy orange that brings interiors to life. Dutch Boy Paints, which has a major retail partnership with Menards, a home improvement retailer with locations throughout the Midwest, selected the shade after completing a trend-forecasting process using design research, market insights, and cultural analysis.

Behr’s announcement also marked the 10th anniversary of its Color of the Year program, which included a $250,000 donation to Habitat for Humanity to support affordable homeownership programs.

2027 Color Trends Forecasts and Supporting Palettes

Multiple paint brands have released their full 2027 color trend forecasts alongside their chosen hues. Sherwin-Williams’ Rewild trend forecast includes a complementary Minwax stain, Pickled Oak MW 260, a semi-transparent stain in Minwax’s white color family. Behr’s Grounded is paired with a supporting palette that includes Family Reunion 25A-3, a soft beige with warm yellow undertones and a slight green cast, alongside other neutrals like Coastal Beige and Wheat Grass.

Retail Partnerships and Product Applications

Valspar’s selection aligns with its extensive retail presence at Lowe’s stores across the Midwest, ensuring that the mid-tone neutral blue reaches a broad audience. The company’s lineup includes interior and exterior paints, exterior stains, cabinet and furniture enamel, and even concrete/garage floor epoxy, all capable of being tinted with the featured hue.
