Categories and judges reflect industry shifts
The awards honor work across four categories: Architectural Concept, Architectural Rendering & Drawing, Architectural Photography & Video, and Architectural Visionary Categories. This year’s judging panel includes architects, photographers, and technology leaders like Daniel Libeskind of Studio Libeskind, Ema Peter of Ema Peter Photography, and Ismail Seleit, an AI innovator at Support + Partners.
Other judges include Steven Holl of Steven Holl Architects, Amanda Ferber of Architecture Hunter, and Sanjay Puri of Sanjay Puri Architects. The diversity of the panel—spanning design, technology, and media—suggests a broader push to recognize how architecture is communicated, not just built.
Last year’s winners included Jason O’Rear’s photograph of Populus, which won Best Photo—Architecture & Details, and HISM’s photorealistic rendering of a conceptual Manhattan skyscraper. Rafael Gamo’s image of San Blas Pier earned the Editor’s Choice for Architectural Photographer of the Year.
Winners gain exposure beyond traditional channels
Selected winners will be featured in Architizer’s Visionary 100, an annual directory of influential creators. For the first time, some will also showcase their work at an in-person gala at the Cité des Sciences et de l’Industrie in Paris. Winning architectural films may be aired on DESIGNTV, a video platform focused on design.

One winner will also have the opportunity to monetize their work through NADKA, a creative catalog platform. Partnerships with METROPOLIS magazine will ensure additional visibility, with select winners published in the Spring 2027 issue and distributed at the 2027 AIA Convention.
